Are You Ready to Lose Weight and Keep it off?
In 2002 I had just returned from a family vacation and in seeing pictures of myself, my reality came crashing down. I was horrified to discover that the person in the pictures looked nothing like the person that I saw in the mirror. I came face to face with the reality that I was nearly a hundred pounds overweight and I looked terrible. My denial was hitting me square in the face. Even worse, I had failed at so many diets in the past that I lacked the confidence that I could do anything about it. I was truly at my rock bottom, I felt horrible about the way I looked and I realized that I had a choice to make. I could burn the pictures of myself, learn to avoid all cameras and go on living a life of denial or I could take back my life.
I chose to take it back and I did it by losing weight and learning to manage my issues at the same time. With each pound I lost, each issue I learned to manage, and each time I moved my body, I felt better and better about myself. Although my self-esteem had taken a blow, it was a necessary part of the process. In order to rebuild myself, I had to face the reality of the situation and learn to pick myself up. With every pound I lost and each calorically self-destructive behavior I learned to manage, my self-esteem grew. I was no longer living a life where I was denying my weight, but one where I was facing my eating issues and taking off the pounds. Through doing this, I lost 100 pounds and learned to change my life. It was at this point that I founded the New Lifestyle Diet so that everyone could successfully lose weight, conquer their emotional eating, and learn to keep the weight off for the rest of their lives.
